MPP Caroline Mulroney stopped in to meet with the team at New Leaf: Living and Learning Together Inc. (New Leaf) where she had an opportunity to see and hear about the upgrades that were made to New Leaf’s woodshop and elsewhere onsite, thanks to a $133,500 Capital grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) that it received in November 2023.
“Our government is committed to supporting the health and wellbeing of individuals with diverse abilities in York-Simcoe and across our province. This capital grant funding has helped them make much needed improvements to New Leaf’s home, ensuring they deliver services in a safe and enriching space for all to enjoy in the community.”

The scope of work made possible by the $133,500 grant from OTF included new heating, ventilation and air conditioning, electrical, exterior siding and windows. Additional work funded by New Leaf included a new accessible washroom, interior and exterior doors, entrance ramps and interior painting.
“The impact of this Ontario Trillium Foundation grant cannot be exaggerated,” said Colleen Ashmore-Miehm, Executive Director of New Leaf. “This grant has allowed needed renovations to be made to an older building that had fallen into disrepair – especially as it had not been used since the onset of the pandemic. The improvements create a phenomenal accessible and functional space that will enable New Leaf to work with partners, including artisans and hobbyists, to create opportunities for individuals supported and for others who live in our community.”
